What makes these workshops special?

-if you're a beginner you might be feeling a bit anxious, or maybe you've tried to learn the basics before and ended up feeling more confused than when you started out. There's a lot to take on board at the beginning, and one of my strengths is in being able to get information across clearly and without over-use of jargon. I can really empathise with that feeling of being overhwelmed by it all, and I keep it as simple as possible without making it simplistic.

Many well-known photographers are fantastic at their craft, but they aren't always so good at getting it across to other people. Occasionally you even find some who aren't very interested in teaching at all and only do it because it brings in some extra income. I love to teach and have years of experience teaching a variety of different subjects. I've been told many times that I'm good at giving people confidence, and that I have a lot of patience - these are certainly things I aim for. I get a real buzz from helping people get closer to taking the kind of pictures they dream of.

-so that you have something to refresh your memory after you've gone home, you'll be given a specially written booklet with all the information that we cover in the class clearly outlined. It's yours to keep and it will fit into your camera bag for easy reference if and when you need it.

-to make sure you get as much personal attention as you need, group sizes are kept small (6-8; often less).

-you're welcome to contact me after your tuition with any questions you have, and I'll do my best to go the extra mile for you.

Here's what some of my students say:

So, thanks for another great class. I really feel we get value for money, you tell us so much. Plus, that is the first time in 40 years I’ve understood F numbers. Eileen, Westgate-on-sea

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thank you very much for Tuesday - it was a great afternoon & we both got a lot out of the tutorial you gave. If I knew I could pick up so many tips so quickly I'd have booked on the course a long time ago! Carolyn, London

Thank you for a great photography day, especially how simply you were able to explain everything and the patience. I even have photographs and not just snapshots. And in a reply to an email from me asking if I could quote this: Of course you may use my opening sentences. If you wish, please add something around that you were very good company and do have a very special way of explaining and demystifying how to use a DSLR to look creatively through the lens. I really had a great day.

And a couple of extracts from reviews on Tripadvisor (you can find them hereand here:

My tutor, Gilly, was brilliant. I am a know-a-bit beginner and she was both patient and sensitive to what I wanted to get out of the day and made me feel quite happy to ask stupid and repeated questions !

The tuition I received was fantastic - pitched perfectly and very well explained. We then headed off into the city for a walk around to practice my newly acquired skills and I got some great shots which I'm really pleased with.
